Curriculum

The Pimlico Academy curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced to allow all students to develop the powerful knowledge that will give them the freedom to take on the next challenge of their educational journey. Our teachers are experts who understand how to make sure a child not only learns more, but also remembers more in every subject. While our curriculum is academically ambitious, with students learning knowledge that is sometimes the reserve of the independent sector, our clear and effective teaching allows all children to succeed.

Many of our subjects include key stage 3 curriculum programmes that are planned by the Future Academy Trust’s Curriculum Centre. These schemes of work, typically supported by our own textbooks, are integral to our approach to prioritise your child’s learning during the important transition years: from year 6 to secondary school and from year 9 to GCSE study.

We take the time to choose carefully what knowledge to teach, prioritising that which will be of the greatest value to our students in their later lives, and we work out how to teach it in a way that helps children to remember it and to understand how different parts of the curriculum are related to each other.   

Key Stage 3 Subjects 

During Key Stage 3 students study the following subjects:

  • French or Spanish

  • Personal and Social Education
  • Physical Education 
  • Science 

Key Stage 4 Subjects

In the spring term of Year 9, students are required to make choices about what options they wish to study for their GCSEs. Teachers support with this process ensuring that students make suitable subject selections that match their interests and aspirations. During Key Stage 4 students study the following subjects: 

Core Curriculum Subjects: 

  • English Language and Literature
  • French or Spanish 
  • Mathematics  
  • Combined Science

Students will then generally study:

  • One humanities option (Geography or History)
  • One languages option (French, Spanish or Latin)
